Hide the Word in Your Heart
Are you memorizing scripture? If not it is definitely worth a try.
Many times memorizing Bible verses is something thought to be just for children. There is power in having God’s Word hidden in our heart. Scripture memory an help us grow in grace, have victory over sin and give the resources to help others. We have taken a course to help us memorize God’s Word and will share you so you can grow with us. The first three verses are Psalm 33:11,
Colossians 3:16 and Psalm 119:105.
Memorize one verse at a time. Read each verse carefully, ready the reference first, then the verse then read the reference or verse address again at the close. Do this several times in that order to form a habit that will make sure you memorize the reference. Learn the verse so that you can repeat it without error. Practice the verses at least once a day. Write them on note cards to make it easy to review. Place them in areas where you will see them often. Repeat the verses until you can quote each one without any mistakes! Practice with family or friends.
We hope you have much success and will join us for the next set of verses each week.
Advent Gathering
You are invited to join us online for an Advent Gathering. It will be a time to hear Scripture read, sing and be encouraged by a message about this beautiful season that reflects on Jesus' first coming and looks forward to His second coming. It also prepares our hearts for Christmas. We hope you will join us.
Advent Notes
"He's Coming! This shout of anticipation is the heart of Advent, the time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The weeks leading up to Christmas Day are a special time of reflection on God’s gift to us: the child Jesus. Rejoicing in Jesus’ birth certainly brings glory to God, but sometimes we can forget that God didn’t just send a child into the world; He sent a mighty Rescuer! The image of the Child in the manger should fill our hearts with praise because we know what that Child would grow up to accomplish—He would save His people from their sins. This story is not just for those of us who live after Jesus’ time, though. The people of God have always known what Jesus’ mission would be. How did they know about this divine rescue plan before Jesus actually came? Because God promised the whole plan to them, and every single part of it was designed to become true in Jesus."
This is an excerpt from the opeing of the book, 'The Expected One: Anticipating All of Jesus in the Advent', by Scott James. Week One
Scripture Reference: Isaiah 9:1-7 ESV
9 :1 "But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
2 The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone.
3 You have multiplied the nation;
you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
as with joy at the harvest,
as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
4 For the yoke of his burden,
and the staff for his shoulder,
the rod of his oppressor,
you have broken as on the day of Midian.
5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult
and every garment rolled in blood
will be burned as fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this."
